How Featherwork compares
Built for small service businesses. Priced like it, too.
Most invoicing tools are either free bait for a bigger payments business, capped until you upgrade, or bolted onto software built for managing a large field team. Featherwork Invoicing is none of that — one plan, unlimited invoices, clients, and jobs, nothing to outgrow as your team grows.
| Tool | Price | What you actually get |
|---|---|---|
| Featherwork Invoicing | $12/mo | One plan. Unlimited invoices, clients & jobs — no caps, no per-seat fees, nothing to upgrade into. |
| Wave | $0–$19/mo | Free bookkeeping software with invoicing bolted on — not built around how a small service business runs jobs. |
| Square Invoices | $0/mo | No subscription, but no client or job tracking either — one-off invoices, not a business tool. |
| Invoice2go | $5.99–$39.99/mo | Invoice volume is capped on the cheaper tiers — unlimited only once you're paying top price. |
| FreshBooks | $23–$70/mo | Capped by client count — the price climbs fast as your business grows. |
| QuickBooks Simple Start | $38/mo | A full accounting suite. Most of what you're paying for, you'll never open. |
| Jobber / Housecall Pro | $49–$79/mo | Crew scheduling & dispatch platforms — invoicing is one small piece of a much bigger, pricier tool. |
Competitor pricing checked August 2026 — this space moves fast (QuickBooks alone raised its price three times in 2026). Always confirm current pricing directly with the provider before deciding.
"Why not just use Wave or Square? They're free."
Fair question. Free tools aren't charity — Wave and Square make their money on payment processing, so invoicing is a loss-leader to get your card volume. That's a fine trade if invoicing is a side feature of a bigger relationship you already have with them. But neither is built around how a small service business actually runs: Square has no concept of a client or a job, just one-off invoices. Wave is built for bookkeeping, not for looking sharp in front of your clients. $12/mo buys a tool that's actually about your business — branded, and organized around your clients and jobs — not a side door into someone else's payments business.
"Why not Jobber, Housecall Pro, or QuickBooks?"
Those are real, capable tools — for a different stage of business than yours, at least for now. Jobber and Housecall Pro are built for dispatching a large field team across multiple jobs a day; QuickBooks and FreshBooks are full accounting systems built for bookkeepers. If you're a small team, most of what you'd be paying for in those tools sits unused. Featherwork Invoicing does the one thing you actually need well — send a professional invoice, get paid fast — without $50–$80/mo of software built to run a team you don't need yet.
