Privacy Policy
Effective Date: September 10, 2026
Featherwork LLC (“Featherwork,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides a lightweight invoicing and invoice-reminder application for contractors and service businesses (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It applies to our website, application, and related services, and is incorporated into our Terms of Use.
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Who This Policy Covers
This policy covers two kinds of people:
- Users — the contractors and service businesses who sign up for a Featherwork account.
- Clients — the people your business invoices, whose contact and payment information you enter into Featherwork so we can send invoices and reminders on your behalf.
If you are a Client and have questions about data a Featherwork User submitted about you, please contact that business directly — they control that data. You’re welcome to also reach us at hello@featherwork.io and we’ll do what we can to help.
2. Information We Collect
a. Information you give us directly
- Account information: name, email address, password (stored in hashed form), and business details you provide when you sign up or sign in.
- Profile and business information: company name, business type/industry, address, and similar details you add to your profile or settings.
- Client and invoicing data: information you enter about your clients and jobs — such as client names, email addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers, job descriptions, invoice line items, amounts, and payment status.
- Communications: messages you send us for support, feedback, or other correspondence.
b. Information from third parties
- Stripe: if you connect a Stripe account to accept payments, or subscribe to Pro, Stripe shares limited information with us (such as your Stripe account ID, payment status, and subscription status) so we can operate the Service. Stripe — not Featherwork — collects and stores full payment card and bank account details. See Stripe’s Privacy Policy.
- Sign-in providers: if you sign up or sign in using a third-party identity provider, we receive basic profile information (such as name and email) from that provider as permitted by your settings with them.
c. Information collected automatically
- Usage data: pages and features you use, actions you take (such as creating an invoice or sending a reminder), timestamps, and similar interaction data.
- Device and log data: IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, and referring URLs.
- Cookies and similar technologies: see Section 7 below.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- create and maintain your account, and authenticate you when you sign in;
- provide the Service, including generating invoices, sending automated payment reminders to your clients on your behalf, and processing subscription billing;
- process payments and payouts through Stripe;
- send you transactional communications (billing receipts, security alerts, service notices) and, where you’ve opted in, product updates or marketing;
- monitor, maintain, and improve the Service, including troubleshooting and analyzing usage trends;
- detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
- enforce our Terms of Use and comply with legal obligations; and
- communicate with you about support requests or feedback you send us.
We do not sell your personal information or your clients’ personal information, and we do not use client data you submit to market to your clients on our own behalf.
4. How We Share Information
We share information only as described here:
- Service providers. We use third-party vendors to help operate the Service, such as Stripe (payments and billing), cloud hosting providers, and email/notification delivery providers (to send invoices and reminders to your clients). These providers can only use the data to perform services for us and are bound by contractual confidentiality and data protection obligations.
- Your clients. When you create and send an invoice or reminder, relevant details (such as the invoice amount, description, and payment link) are shared with the client you’re invoicing, because that’s the point of the feature.
- Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or if we believe in good faith it’s necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Featherwork, our users, or others.
- Business transfers. If Featherwork is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to standard confidentiality protections.
- With your direction. We may share information in other ways if you direct us to or consent at the time.
We do not share client data you submit with third parties for their own independent marketing purposes.
5. If You Are a Featherwork User: Data You Submit About Your Clients
When you enter your clients’ information into Featherwork, you (not Featherwork) are the one deciding what data to collect and why — we process it on your behalf to provide the Service (for example, to generate and deliver invoices and reminders). As explained in our Terms of Use, you’re responsible for having the appropriate rights and legal basis to share your clients’ information with us and for complying with applicable privacy and anti-spam laws in how you use the Service. If a client asks you to correct or delete their information, you can typically do so directly within your Featherwork account; contact us at hello@featherwork.io if you need help.
6. Data Retention
We retain account and client/invoicing data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward to allow you to reactivate your account, comply with legal and tax recordkeeping obligations (such as financial transaction records), resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. If you delete your account, we will delete or de-identify your data within a reasonable period, except where we’re required to retain it (for example, transaction records Stripe or law requires us to keep) or where residual copies remain temporarily in backups before they’re overwritten.
7. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies (such as local storage) to:
- keep you signed in and remember your preferences;
- understand how the Service is used so we can improve it; and
- where applicable, measure the effectiveness of our own marketing.
You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling cookies may affect the functionality of the Service (for example, staying signed in). We do not currently use third-party advertising cookies to track you across other websites.
8. Data Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit and restricted access to production systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a security incident affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
9. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- access a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate information (you can update most account and client information directly in your account settings);
- delete your personal information, subject to the retention exceptions in Section 6;
- object to or restrict certain processing; and
- opt out of marketing emails, by using the unsubscribe link in any marketing message (this does not apply to transactional emails necessary to operate the Service, such as invoices, reminders, and billing notices).
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@featherwork.io. We will verify your request and respond within the time required by applicable law.
California residents: Depending on the volume and nature of personal information we process, you may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out of “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA. To exercise CCPA rights, contact us at hello@featherwork.io.
EU/UK/other regions: If you are located outside the United States, please note the Service is operated from the United States and is primarily designed for U.S. small businesses. If you access the Service from a region with its own data protection law (such as the GDPR), you may have additional rights, and by using the Service you acknowledge your information will be processed in the United States as described in this policy.
10. Children’s Privacy
The Service is intended for business use by adults and is not directed to, and should not be used by, anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at hello@featherwork.io and we will delete it.
11. International Data Transfers
We are based in the United States, and information we collect is processed and stored in the United States (or with service providers, such as Stripe and our hosting provider, that may process data in other countries). By using the Service, you acknowledge your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries that may have different data protection laws than your own.
12. Third-Party Links and Services
The Service may link to or integrate with third-party services, such as Stripe. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties, and we encourage you to review their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party services.
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or an in-app notice before the changes take effect. The “Effective Date” at the top of this policy reflects the most recent revision. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
